Artist Statement

"For some painters subject is more or less a pretext to carry on with their work and for others it’s an excuse to put an end to the fear of the never ending process of painting. It’s a double edge sword; it can either provide a placebo effect for the observer and hence a distraction, an evanescent euphoria that when confronted by the ordinariness of the day-to-day life only provokes misery and disappointment. Or through depicting the uncanny, devoid of any heroic gestures make it more bearable. The painter has the privilege of exploiting acts of immorality and scenes of violence while claiming a deceptive objectivity to give its audience a self-deprecating voyeuristic pleasure and hence exposing the symbolic status of our collective moral compass. Creating a two dimensional object capable of depicting complex subject matters through illusive techniques, infused with an almost mystique aura enabling the viewer to take part in others dreams."
